Why Us

  • At Nitty Gritty Preschool, we believe that every child is unique and has their own strengths and interests. Our curriculum reflects this belief, as we have carefully selected a combination of programs and approaches that focus on the whole child. We aim to provide a well-rounded education that not only develops academic skills but also fosters social, emotional, and physical development. Our approach to learning is child-centered, which means that we tailor our curriculum to meet the needs of each individual child. This personalized approach helps to ensure that every child receives the attention and support they need to thrive.

  • At our preschool, you can expect your child to have a warm and nurturing learning environment. We believe in creating an atmosphere that promotes social and emotional development, as well as academic growth. Our curriculum is designed to balance structured and unstructured activities, providing children with a range of experiences that help them develop essential skills while having fun. Additionally, we incorporate play-based learning into our curriculum, allowing children to learn through exploration and discovery.

  • At Nitty Gritty, we believe in providing a strong foundation of academic and social-emotional skills that will prepare children for their future education. Our curriculum is designed to not only teach important academic concepts but also to foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. We incorporate play-based learning and hands-on experiences to make learning fun and engaging for children. We also encourage children to express themselves and collaborate with their peers, which helps them develop important social skills that are essential for success in any educational setting. Additionally, our experienced and dedicated teachers work closely with each child to ensure that they are receiving individualized support and guidance as they navigate their educational journey.

Our School

  • Acton Academy Silicon Valley is a private school in the heart of Silicon Valley that offers a unique, student-led approach to education. At our school, our learners have agency over their education and are given the opportunity to discover their passions and interests.

Acton SV splits its learners across four multi-age studios, and Nitty Gritty is the studio serving 2 to 5-year-olds. After Nitty Gritty, learners continue their journey into the Spark Studio and beyond.

Our mission is to create an environment of curiosity and deep exploration where every child can be who they are meant to be and find their calling through their hero’s journey.

Safety & Health

  • At Nitty Gritty, health, and safety is our first priority. We have several safety protocols in place to achieve the health and safety of every child in our school.

    1. All students must sign in and out daily.

    2. Parents must fill out a form to authorize an unauthorized adult to pick up a learner, and a photo ID is required to release the child.

    3. Learners participate in fire drills and earthquake drills on rotating months.

    4. There is an on-site emergency and evocation plan posted in each Studio.

    5. All Guides have passed a DOJ criminal background clearance.

    6. All Guides are CPR/First Aid certified and have participated in a 6-hour training on health & safety, nutrition, and lead poisoning, as the state requires.

    7. All Guides are legally mandated child abuse reporters and must take a certification course on understanding the signs of abuse.

  • We understand that occasionally children become ill while at school. In this event, parents/guardians will be notified immediately, and arrangements will need to be made for the child to be picked up.

  • No, but children will be asked to bring food from home if they have special dietary needs.
